Dion Lee Melbourne By Akin Creative

Design - by Open Journal

Australian fashion designer Dion Lee has opened his second flagship space, in Emporium Melbourne.

A stark, striking and provocative space, the site is designed by Sydney architecture and interiors practice Akin Creative.
Director Kelvin Ho describes the Melbourne store as a conceptual evolution of the designer’s first store in Sydney.

Together with Ho, project interior designer Linda Tjaturono has created retail space that plays with geometry and reflection, creating an almost infinity like effect that tricks the eye and creates depth.

“Materiality is explored through the use of concrete, steel, high gloss metal panels, mirror stainless steel and LED strip lighting,” says Ho, who states the play of geometric form and reflectivity is an important part of the spatial experience.

Of course, the spatial experience is one element that online sellers will never be able to replicate. And for designers such as Lee, the retail space represents a platform for expression that elevates the garment and marks the evolution of a  brand to the next level.
